In 1929, the Syrian immigrant Saúl Menem, in his search for a suitable site to plant vines, discovered Anillaco, which in Quechua means Water from above. Originally the site of Indian settlements, Anillaco lies in a well-irrigated valley in the shadow of the Cerro Velazco, among the foothills of the Andes, in the northwest province of La Rioja. Anillaco possesses all the right ecological conditions which allows an excellent ripening of the grape. It is semi- desert, arid and receives hardly any rain throughout the year. Luminosity and wide-ranging temperatures are outstanding. Furthermore, the vines are cultivated at an altitude of 1,450 meters. These factors justify Anillaco’s claim to Andean snowfield runoff. When this is not enough, subterranean water is tapped.

In 1998, Mr. Carlos Spadone took charge of the winery and invested in technology, bringing in new and state-of-the-art equipment. This, together with the expertise and professionalism of the winemakers, has resulted in the production of top quality wines. The philosophy adopted by Bodegas San Huberto is a combination of tradition and harmony with high technology, which encourages respect for the consumer as a direct result of the quality of its products.

"A little bit of bramble and green on the nose, but by and large this wine is solid. The palate offers sweetness and brown sugar along with zesty fruit, while the tannic structure and persistence are unavoidable "
