Solar Viejo - Brand Overview
Bodegas Solar Viejo was founded in 1937, the winery is located in Rioja Alavesa, in the northern part of La Rioja, close to the Middle Age town of Laguardia.The Rioja Alavesa is the most prestigious zone of La Rioja. Thanks to its soils and micro-climate it is famous for producing the finest and fruitiest wines of this appellation. Another characteristic of this region is the existence of many small individual wine growers, which has led to a higher quality control and lower yields, guaranteeing the optimum fruit for the winemaker. Solar Viejo is the pure expression of this region. Through generations the winery has developed strong relationships with the growers. These relationships are based on life-long collaboration and help to insure the best quality of the grapes.
The name Solar Viejo comes from Casas Soleriegas, the ancestral homes of the great old families of the region, which are typical of Laguardia. Many of the region's famous artists and writers have lived in these homes over the years. They are an important part of the history and culture of the town.
